JPJ director-general Aedy Fadly Ramli said the department had conducted inspections of 37 Puspakom centres throughout the country, Bernama reported.
He said that since Dec 31 last year, 21 vehicles had been seized for various violations, including the use of counterfeit motor vehicle trade licences, unregistered vehicles, and expired motor vehicle licences and insurance.
“Among the seized vehicles was a lorry approved by Puspakom despite physically failing to meet vehicle safety standards.
“The lorry was seized under Section 64(1) of RTA to prevent further violations,” he said in a statement.
JPJ is collaborating with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to address issues related to vehicle inspection at Puspakom.
Last week, it was reported that MACC had arrested eight people, including six vehicle inspection officers, in connection with a case involving heavy vehicle inspections at a Puspakom centre in Kuala Lumpur.
A source from the anti-graft agency said the arrests were made after interrogating an agent who was handed over by JPJ.
MACC previously arrested a man in his 40s in connection with the same case.
