Upko secretary-general Nelson Angang and youth chief Felix Joseph Saang said the issue was being discussed among the members of the Sabah PH leadership today.
“The heads of the Sabah PH parties will issue a joint statement later,” Felix told FMT.
Upko president Ewon Benedick was elected Sabah PH chairman last month but PKR members later said the post should have gone to the party.
Former Upko president Wilfred Madius Tangau said the post should not have been made an issue since Ewon was elected by the members of the Sabah PH leadership.
However, he believed the dissatisfaction within PKR was not out of the ordinary in politics.
In the Sabah PH election, PKR’s Christina Liew was ousted as state chairman, a post she had held since 2017, after losing to Ewon by three votes.
Two weeks later, Liew said discussions were being held on her possible return as Sabah PH chairman, adding that talks were held with PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and members of the state leadership council.
However, Sabah DAP chief Phoong Jin Zhe defended Ewon’s election and denied that there was a rule stipulating that the state PH chairmanship must be held by PKR.
