PETALING JAYA:
One hundred and fifty trainees attended the first day of the revamped national service training programme (PLKN 3.0), which officially resumed today after a seven-year hiatus.

The trainees, who are from across the country, arrived at the Rejimen 515 Askar Wataniah camp in Kuala Lumpur this morning, accompanied by their family members, Bernama reported.

The 150 trainees, aged 18 to 35, had all volunteered for the PLKN 3.0 trial run. They will undergo 45 days of training, which will comprise military and statehood components.

Deputy defence minister Adly Zahari was previously reported as saying that PLKN 3.0 will be held at two military camps in Kuala Lumpur and Pahang before being expanded to 13 other camps nationwide.

He said the government had allocated RM50 million to start PLKN 3.0.

The national service training programme is targeted at Form Four students, Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) school-leavers, and youths from institutions of higher learning.
