The global initiative, which tailors its donations to local needs, aims to support refugees, domestic violence victims, B40 families, flood victims in Kelantan and Terengganu, Orang Asli communities, persons with disabilities and critically-ill children in East Malaysia.
Evelyn Tan, legal and sustainability director at Uniqlo Malaysia, expressed hope that the donations will bring comfort and ease to those in need.
“We are honoured to contribute to the global ‘The Heart of LifeWear’ initiative and to adapt it to meet the needs of Malaysian communities,” she said in a statement today.
“At Uniqlo, we believe in the power of clothing to improve lives and foster positive change.”
The beneficiary organisations for this donation include the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), Malaysian Relief Agency, Women’s Aid Organisation, Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) and the Rotary Club of Kuching Central.
Yante Ismail, UNHCR’s communications head, praised Uniqlo’s efforts and highlighted the significant impact the donations would have on refugees in Malaysia.
“The clothing donated through Uniqlo’s ‘The Heart of LifeWear’ initiative will directly benefit refugees in Malaysia, providing them with much-needed comfort and practicality in their daily lives.
“This collaboration is an example of how meaningful partnerships can make a tangible impact on vulnerable communities,” she said.
The initiative, launched as part of Uniqlo’s 40th anniversary, aims to address challenges in society by promoting the idea that quality clothing can improve lives.
Under this programme, Uniqlo distributes Heattech clothing for colder regions and AIRism items in warmer climates.
By collaborating with trusted local organisations, “The Heart of LifeWear” initiative not only provides clothing but also reinforces a sense of dignity and hope for the recipients.
