The world No 5 pair defeated the Taiwanese pair, currently ranked No 51 in the BWF rankings, 21-8, 21-14 in just 30 minutes.
Their victory kicked off Day 3 of the championship on a positive note for the home crowd at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei remained strong throughout the game, showing glimpses of the form that took them to the BWF World Tour Finals in China last month where they finished as runners-up.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei will meet the world No 14 from Japan Hiroki Midorikawa-Natsu Saito.
In a post-match interview, they said they would take things one match at a time when asked if they could end Malaysia’s mixed doubles title drought in the tournament.
“We don’t want to be too confident, let’s focus on winning the next match,” Tang Jie said.
