KUALA LUMPUR:
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Indonesia’s president Prabowo Subianto held a closed-door discussion focussing on efforts to strengthen bilateral relations here today.

The meeting, held during a private luncheon hosted by Anwar at Rumah Tangsi, was part of Prabowo’s one-day working visit to Malaysia.

This is Prabowo’s first working visit to Malaysia since assuming office in October 2024.

“The visit reflects the special relationship between Malaysia and the Republic of Indonesia, underpinned by robust cooperation across various fields, including economic, socio-cultural, defence and security,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.

Once the luncheon concluded, Anwar boarded a car with Prabowo, who was scheduled to return to KLIA.

Also present in Prabowo’s entourage was Indonesia’s foreign minister Sugiono.

Indonesia is one of Malaysia’s key trading partners, ranking as the seventh-largest globally and the third-largest among Asean member states in 2023.

Total trade between the two nations reached RM111.21 billion last year.

Between January and October 2024, bilateral trade was valued at RM95.50 billion, compared with RM94.37 billion for the corresponding period in 2023.
