PETALING JAYA:
Preacher Firdaus Wong has filed an appeal against a court order to remove a video allegedly promoting secret underage conversions until the disposal of a suit brought by eight non-Muslim parents.

The parents’ lawyer, M Visvanathan, confirmed receiving copies of the appeal notice filed on Jan 2.

“Yes. The sealed copy was served today. We will contest the matter in the Court of Appeal,” he told FMT.

The preacher previously complied with an ex parte interim court order issued on Oct 3 to remove the TikTok video.

However, he is now challenging the Dec 3 ruling that upheld the order even after his legal team presented arguments against it.

In June, Firdaus posted a video of him allegedly giving a man instructions on how to handle requests from minors wishing to secretly convert to Islam.

Numerous police reports were lodged against Firdaus after the video made the rounds on social media, leading police to probe the preacher under Section 505(c) of the Penal Code for making statements conducive to public mischief.

In the suit, the plaintiffs asked the court to declare that Firdaus had acted unlawfully in making such statements.

They also asked for an injunction to compel him to permanently remove the video and restrain him from making similar statements in the future.
