PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested eight people, including six vehicle inspection officers, in connection with a case involving heavy vehicle inspections at a Kuala Lumpur Puspakom centre.

An MACC source said the male suspects, aged between 30 and 50, were arrested yesterday while they were giving their statements at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.

“The arrests were made after interrogating an agent who was handed over by the road transport department (JPJ) recently,” the source said.

“However, the six vehicle inspection officers were released on MACC bail after their statements were recorded.”

The source said two other individuals were remanded for five days from Jan 11 to facilitate further investigations.

The remand order was issued by magistrate Irza Zulaikha at the Putrajaya magistrate’s court this morning.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the arrests when contacted.

The case is being investigated under Section 16(b)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.

Khusairi said MACC had arrested nine individuals so far and it did not rule out the possibility of more arrests in connection with the case.

On Dec 30, JPJ conducted a surprise inspection at the Wangsa Maju Puspakom centre and uncovered an unsafe vehicle that had passed inspection.
