The crowd, including supporters from PAS, Bersatu, Umno, and NGOs, arrived by 6.30am, displaying banners with messages like “#Justice4Najib” and “#BebasNajib”.
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin, and PAS vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar were among the politicians spotted inside the court complex.
Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh also showed up for the rally. In a Facebook post, he said: “Anak jantan (real men) are here with the people. We don’t stay in hotel rooms while using the people.”
However, at least three buses of Najib’s supporters were denied entry to the administrative capital earlier this morning after being stopped at police roadblocks en route to the rally.
News portal SuaraTV posted a photo on Facebook showing a large group of people standing near the buses at a rest stop. The supporters were reportedly from Langkawi and Pekan.
Putrajaya police chief Aidi Sham Mohamed yesterday said that roadblocks would be set up and strict checks conducted on vehicles attempting to enter Putrajaya ahead of the rally.
The Court of Appeal will today hear Najib’s application for leave to adduce fresh evidence in his appeal to serve the remainder of his jail term under house arrest.
