MACC said the man, in his 40s, was arrested yesterday, following collaboration between the commission and the road transport department (JPJ).
“The individual was handed over by JPJ to MACC and was arrested after his statement was recorded at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya,” it said in a statement.
“An initial investigation revealed that the suspect made payments, totalling hundreds of ringgit for each vehicle inspected, in exchange for approving heavy vehicle inspections at Puspakom.”
MACC said the arrest underscores its commitment, together with JPJ, to safeguard the vehicle inspection process and ensure it remains free from corruption.
Meanwhile, at the Putrajaya magistrates’ court this morning, the MACC obtained a remand order to hold the suspect until Jan 10, to assist in their investigation.
