KUANTAN:
Two women were killed and two others seriously injured when their car skidded and plunged into a 6m-deep ravine off the East Coast Expressway near Felda Nerek this morning.

A fire and rescue team extricated four adult women who were trapped in the vehicle after it veered off the road and plunged into the ravine. Two women were pronounced dead while the other two were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The two dead women, V Kohmathy, 61, and K Vasanthy, 60, both from Selangor, were rear seat passengers of a Nissan Almera, police said.

The driver, S Nishantini, 33, and front seat passenger, K Turgaa Shini, 24, are receiving treatment for their injuries, said Maran police chief Wong Kim Wai.

He said the four victims, who are related to one another, were travelling from Banting, Selangor, to the Sri Marathandavar Temple in Maran.

It was found that the driver’s licence had expired on Dec 21 last year, he said. Investigations are being carried out into reckless and dangerous driving.
