PETALING JAYA:
Two more boats are believed to be carrying undocumented migrants from Myanmar but their location has yet to be identified, says the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).

The search for the boats comes after 196 undocumented migrants from Myanmar were detained by police at Pantai Teluk Yu, off Langkawi, at 3.25am today. The boat had capsized off the coast.

“To track the remaining undocumented migrants reportedly on their way from Myanmar to Langkawi, MMEA has activated Ops Guard and doubled its patrols,” said the agency’s director-general, Rosli Abdullah.

He said boats and ships have been mobilised around the northern shores of Langkawi as well as the country’s borders.

“Aircraft have also been deployed to track the undocumented migrants,” he said.

Rosli said MMEA is in close contact with the Thai authorities to ascertain whether they have been tracking the movement of these two boats.
