Cops probe after man damages TTDI mosque’s items, disturbs worshippers

Cops say the suspect had received treatment for mental health issues in 2022 and 2023.

Police have launched an investigation after a 25-year-old man disturbed worshippers at a mosque in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, and also damaged two items belonging to the mosque.

Brickfields police chief Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said a police report was lodged over a viral video of the incident, which occurred at 5.40am yesterday.

The complainant said the suspect had disturbed congregants at the mosque and damaged a television and a chair.

“The suspect has had mental health issues since April 2022 and was last treated at the University Malaya Medical Centre on Jan 16, 2023. He has not received any follow-up treatment since then.

“Police have tracked down the suspect for further investigation under Section 427 of the Penal Code for causing mischief,” he said in a statement.
