GEORGE TOWN:
Fans of Bollywood playback singer Udit Narayan are up in arms after his concert, scheduled to be held in Penang late last month, was indefinitely postponed.

The concert, “A Lovely Night with Udit Narayan”, was called off days before it was due to be held at the Setia Spice Arena on Nov 28.

Businessman Yusuf Taiyoob, who spent over RM7,000 on three premium tickets, expressed his frustration at hearing nothing from the organisers one month later.

“I’ve contacted the organisers many times and even sent them a letter of demand, but they haven’t replied. The silence is worrying,” he told FMT.

The organisers announced the postponement on Instagram, citing “unavoidable circumstances”.

They assured ticket holders that their tickets would still be valid but gave no rescheduled date for the concert. They also insisted that there would be no refunds, in line with the terms and conditions on which the tickets were issued.

This sparked anger among ticket buyers, with many fans responding to the Instagram post by demanding that a confirmed new date for the concert be announced or insisting on refunds.

One disappointed fan, Deanna Rahman, shared her frustration.

“I, along with five friends, bought VIP tickets for the show. On the day of the concert, they suddenly posted on Instagram through Uber Tickets saying: ‘Sorry, the concert is cancelled’.

“There was no email or prior notice. I rushed back from London to Penang, while one of my friends came from Singapore and others from Kuala Lumpur. We feel completely cheated as we spent money on hotels and flights, which are now wasted,” she said.

When reached for comment, one of the co-organisers, LR Asia, told FMT that a new date would be identified soon.

“We understand the concerns of ticket holders. However, we are adhering to the terms of sale and are working to confirm a new date. Updates will be shared soon. There will be good news,” said a spokesman.

Udit Narayan is famous playback singer who has lent his voice to songs featured in many Bollywood movies, including Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which feature superstar actor Shah Rukh Khan.
