Abrar claimed that Mastura’s remarks had compromised her personal integrity as a PhD-educated elected representative.
“We demand her resignation to allow the people the opportunity to elect a new leader through a by-election. This is the best step to ensure that the people’s voice is heard, justice is upheld, and trust in democracy is restored,” he said in a statement.
He added that her actions had undermined public trust in the parliamentary system and tarnished the image of Kepala Batas, which he said had long been known for its principles of moderation, transparency, and trustworthiness.
“The act of soliciting donations in the name of jihad also highlights how PAS, as a party, appears to condone defamation,” he added.
On Dec 4, Mastura lost the defamation case brought by DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang, his son, Guan Eng, and Seputeh MP Teresa Kok over her claims linking them to the late Communist Party of Malaya leader, Chin Peng.
The George Town High Court ordered her to pay RM300,000 to Kit Siang, RM250,000 to Guan Eng, and RM200,000 to Kok. She was also ordered to pay costs of RM25,000 to each of the trio.
Following the verdict, PAS launched a donation drive urging its members to help pay the RM825,000 in damages and costs.
In an internal letter sighted by FMT, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the party’s top brass had decided that everyone should pitch in to support Mastura.
Mastura has applied for a stay of execution to delay payment while she pursues further legal recourse. The High Court has fixed Jan 23 to hear her application.
Wanita Bersatu chief Mas Ermieyati Samsudin previously called for Hannah Yeoh to be dropped as youth and sports minister after the Segambut MP lost a defamation suit against former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan.
Yeoh had accused him of defaming her in a forum at Universiti Teknologi Mara four years ago, where he allegedly said the DAP MP had written her book to make Malaysia a Christian country, destroy Islam and the nation, and place her personal interests above those of the nation.
