PETALING JAYA:
The elderly woman who suffered severe head injuries after falling victim to a snatch thief on a motorcycle in Bangsar in October has passed away.

Bangsar Park Residents’ Association president Nitesh Malani said Lim Foong Mei, 78, died today.

Nitesh told FMT that Lim had been placed in a care home in Bangsar and was recovering when she died.

According to the obituary notice, Lim will be cremated on Friday.

The incident occurred at around 6.30am on Oct 7 at Jalan Limau Manis while Lim was walking to a shop in the neighbourhood.

CCTV footage showed a motorcyclist snatching her handbag, which caused her to fall on the road.

She lay motionless on the road until some passersby went to her aid a few minutes later.

Lim was taken to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for treatment. She had suffered significant bleeding in her head and was put under medical observation.

Police had opened an investigation under Section 394 for voluntarily causing hurt during a robbery.

Brickfields police chief Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the cops are looking into Lim’s cause of death to reassess the case as the suspect has been charged in court under Section 394 of the Penal Code on Oct 22.

“The case is scheduled for trial on Jan 10,” he added.
