PORT KLANG:
A US Navy aircraft carrier, the USS Carl Vinson, docked here today in the second port visit by a US aircraft carrier in two months, following a similar stop by the USS Abraham Lincoln in November.

The commander of the Carl Vinson strike group, Rear Admiral Michael Wosje, said 2024 marked the 10th anniversary of the US-Malaysia defence and security partnership.

The nearly 7,500 sailors from the strike group will participate in cultural exchanges, community relations events, and sponsored tours to enhance cultural understanding and cooperation between the two countries.

The Carl Vinson strike group comprises the aircraft carrier, the guided-missile cruiser USS Princeton, two guided-missile destroyers USS Sterett and USS William P Lawrence, and the carrier air wing.

The strike group operates in the Indo-Pacific region as part of the US 7th Fleet. The Carl Vinson last called at Port Klang in January 2011.
