Sathiya, 60, popular for his role as Ravi in the sitcom “Pi Mai Pi Mai Tang Tu”, needs treatment three times a week at RM200 a session.
“Thank goodness for the Ziarah Seni Madani initiative by Finas and the communications ministry. My treatment costs will be easier to manage,” said Sathiya, whose real name is Sathia Periasamy.
He received a cash donation and food basket as part of the initiative from deputy communications minister Teo Nie Ching at his home here today. Present was Finas chairman Kamil Othman.
It was reported that Sathiya was admitted to Hospital Kuala Lumpur after complaining of numbness in his arms and legs while having breakfast with his wife at home.
Although the assistance does not fully cover his medical expenses, he expressed his joy for the support and the visit.
“That’s all. I just want to be happy, I don’t want to trouble others,” he said, despite limited mobility following the stroke he suffered in July.
Sathiya also said he plans to continue acting and is eager to take on new roles if given the opportunity.
“In two months, I’ll be playing the role of a villain, giving advice while sitting in a chair. I can’t walk, but that’s fine as long as I can speak. Who knows, I might be able to walk in a few months,” he said.
Teo told reporters that 48 artistes have benefited from the initiative, and there are plans to support at least 100 artistes next year.
