The council said some issues being raised at the rally, including that of Musa Aman’s appointment as Sabah’s governor, could be against the law.

“We understand the importance of fighting corruption, but we also need to ensure the safety of our students and respect the law,” it said in a statement today.

It said students should be wary of possible provocations or risks during the event.

To be held outside the Sabah state administrative centre, the rally aims to demand stronger action against corruption in the state.

However, some demands by organisers have raised concerns, including the legality of criticising Musa’s role as Sabah’s incoming governor.

The council said it recognises the students’ right to make their own decisions, but reminded them to follow the law and avoid causing trouble.

“Think carefully about your safety and legal risks,” it said.

It also urged all to have faith in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s ability to investigate corruption cases fairly and without interference.

Themed “Gempur Rasuah Sabah”, the organisers expect it to attract up to 10,000 participants. They are seeking police permission to hold the gathering.

The organisers were reported as saying Sabahans are fed up with the rising corruption claims, which have tarnished the image of the state.
