Cat and dog found dead on university campus

The animals were discovered with slash wounds to the stomach.

Prior to today’s discovery, six cats had been found dead on campus grounds.
PETALING JAYA:
A cat and a dog were found dead this evening on Universiti Malaya’s campus grounds, a day after police said they would be launching a fresh probe into the deaths of several cats.

Independent animal rescuer Shima Aris confirmed the matter when contacted. The dead cat was discovered near the university’s sports arena, while the dog’s carcass was discovered near the college’s residences.

According to Shima the cat and dog had slash wounds to the stomach.

“I have told the students to lodge a police report.”

When contacted, Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Isa confirmed receiving the report on the dead cat and dog found on campus today.

“We are still in the early stages of our investigation,” he said.

The discovery today follows reports of two dead cats found at UM’s Faculty of Business and Economics on Dec 12 and 16. The discovery led to the lodging of a report by the UM Student Union on Dec 17.

Another report, filed on Dec 20, involved the deaths of four cats in different locations on the campus.

Police had previously said the dead cats were likely attacked by a pack of stray dogs.

However, on Monday Shima disputed the police’s findings and called for a fresh probe.

She cited a post-mortem carried out by a private clinic on one of the carcasses which found lesions that were “highly likely” caused by sharp objects. The legs of one of the cats also appeared to have been severed.

Meanwhile, Universiti Malaya students’ union president Abqari Annuar said they had requested the university’s security office to beef up surveillance in the campus area.

“The university had also promised to install more closed-circuit televisions (CCTV),” he said.
