The programme, first launched in 2017, previously limited the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to rooftops with a capacity cap of 85% of a building’s maximum electricity demand.
In a statement today, the energy transition and water transformation ministry said PV elements can now include ground-mounted solar systems and floating solar panels on bodies of water, as long as they are within the user’s premises.
The ministry said there will be new guidelines effective Jan 1 regarding this and that the programme will also be extended to the agricultural sector.
The capacity limit for non-domestic users will also be removed to allow companies to tap into renewable energy, the ministry said.
Energy storage systems for these PV systems will also be required to ensure grid stability and registration will be centralised under the Energy Commission, it said.
“The ministry is confident the improvements to the SelCo programme guidelines will provide broader access to green electricity for consumers, particularly corporations and industries.
“This also supports the nation’s energy transition aspirations to achieve a 70% renewable energy capacity mix in the national electricity supply by 2050,” it said.
