FAM suspends Kelantan FA

The Football Association of Malaysia has suspended the Kelantan Football Association over procedural issues in its congress and election process.

The Kelantan Football Association is the second affiliate to be suspended by FAM after the Perlis Football Association.
KUALA LUMPUR:
The Kelantan Football Association (KFA) became the second affiliate of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to be suspended, effective yesterday.

The governing body’s executive committee unanimously agreed to suspend KFA’s membership, FAM said in a statement today.

“The decision to suspend KFA was based on Article 17 of the FAM statute, which states that the FAM executive committee can suspend the membership of any member.

“The decision on the suspension was based on FAM’s letter dated Dec 21 to KFA, which relates to the decision of the FAM internal disputes committee meeting regarding complaints about the procedures for conducting the 65th KFA annual congress and the election of the KFA executive committee for the 2024-2028 session,” it said.

On Dec 19, the FAM internal disputes committee ruled that the 65th KFA Congress and the KFA executive committee election for the 2024-2028 term were invalid, and the sports commissioner’s office was notified.

The reason was that affiliates which were not invited to the congress were present, indicating that the regulations and procedures for conducting the KFA congress were not followed properly.

FAM has directed KFA to reconvene the congress and conduct the election.

On Dec 4, FAM suspended the Perlis Football Association (PFA) for failing to comply with Fifa’s directive to pay outstanding salaries and contract compensation owed to former PFA director of football, Matt Holland.

The suspension will remain in effect until PFA settles its financial obligations.
