PETALING JAYA:
A scheme aimed at encouraging the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in residential homes via cash rebates has been extended until April next year, the energy transition and water transformation ministry says.

In a statement, the ministry said the extension was among the improvements to its guidelines under the Net Energy Metering (NEM) programme.

Earlier this year, the ministry launched the Solar for Rakyat Incentive Scheme or Solaris, which would see up to RM4,000 in rebates offered to those who apply to join the NEM programme from April 1 to Dec 31.

Under the revised guidelines, the quota for home users will be increased by 150 megawatts (MW), bringing the total to 600MW.

It was previously reported that users seeking to instal solar panels in their homes must apply through the NEM for installation quotas.

For businesses and industries, the quota will be increased by 300MW to 1,700MW.

The ministry also said it was opening the NEM to agricultural farmers in a bid to improve food security.

It said applications for the quota under NEM would be accepted until June 30, or until all quotas have been distributed, whichever comes first.

The revised guidelines for the NEM programme and the extension of the Solaris initiative will take effect on Jan 1, the ministry said.
