KOTA BHARU:
Police detained 10 Myanmar nationals after a car ferrying them ignored orders to stop at Jalan Terbak in Tumpat yesterday.

The 10 comprised seven men, two women and a child, Tumpat police chief Khairi Shafie said.

Khairi said a police MPV unit had spotted the car, whose driver looked suspicious, at 7.40pm.

Police signalled the car to stop, but the driver ignored them and speds towards Wakaf Bharu.

“Upon reaching Kampung Bechah in Temalang here, the vehicle collided with several cars and skidded off the road. The driver fled the scene,” he said in a statement today.

He said the vehicle had false number plates.

The Myanmar nationals were taken to the Tumpat police headquarters for investigation under Section 279 of the Penal Code for reckless driving, and Sections 55E and 6(1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
