PETALING JAYA:
A teacher at a nursery pleaded guilty in the Klang sessions court to abusing a baby boy today, which happens to also be her wedding day.

Nur Suhaidah Saharudin, 24, made the plea after her charge was read before judge Nurul Mardhiah Redza, Utusan Malaysia reported.

Suhaidah was charged with causing physical harm to the 11-month-old child by pinching his cheeks and right ear at the nursery in Puncak Alam at about 6.15pm on Dec 13.

The charge was framed under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which provides for up to 20 years in jail or a maximum RM50,000 fine, or both, upon conviction.

Suhaidah, who was not represented by a lawyer, pleaded for the court to impose a light sentence, stating that she was set to get married today.

“Today is my wedding day, the reception is tomorrow,” she was quoted as saying.

The judge however pointed out to Suhaidah that sentencing would be on another day and that she was only submitting on the bail amount.

Nurul fixed bail at RM10,000 and also granted the prosecution’s application for the case to be transferred to the Kuala Selangor sessions court.

She fixed Dec 24 for case mention and sentencing.
