This comes just two months after BAM announced that it was retaining the Malaysian in his position as the men’s doubles head coach.
The former shuttler first joined the national team’s coaching staff as a men’s doubles assistant coach in December 2020 before being promoted to head coach in September 2023.
“It has been a fulfilling journey working with the men’s doubles team. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together, and I look forward to new challenges ahead,” Tan said in a post on BAM’s official X page.
BAM general secretary Kenny Goh thanked Tan for his contributions, particularly in helping men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik defend their bronze medal in the Paris Olympics.
“The association will announce the new head coach for men’s doubles in due course,” it said.
Indonesian coach Herry Iman Pierngadi is expected to take over the role, New Straits Times reported.
Herry, who was with the Indonesian badminton association for 25 years, had produced men’s doubles Olympic champions Tony Gunawan-Candra Wijaya and Hendra Setiawan-Markis Kido.
