Company owner nabbed over RM375,000 bribe for ‘Datuk Seri’ title

The 46-year-old owner of a private company has been remanded for six days by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly receiving bribes to help secure a “Datuk Seri” title two years ago.

Sources said the female suspect, who owns a private company in Selangor, was detained at 4.45pm yesterday after showing up at the Melaka MACC office to give her statement.

“The company owner is being investigated for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes amounting to over RM375,000 from an individual to secure the ‘Datuk Seri’ title through a syndicate,” the source said.

The case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009, which provides for a minimum RM10,000 fine and up to 20 years in prison, upon conviction.

Magistrate Sharda Shienha Suleiman granted the six-day remand application today.

Melaka MACC director Adi Supian Shafie confirmed the suspect’s detention and remand when contacted.
