Bukit Aman summons Fahmi over satirical poster

The graphic artist and activist says satire is not a crime.

Graphic artist and activist Fahmi Reza said he would be probed for sedition, intention to annoy as well as intentionally insulting a person.
PETALING JAYA:
Bukit Aman has summoned graphic artist and activist Fahmi Reza for questioning over a satirical poster which he had posted on social media.

In a post on X, Fahmi, who has had his fair share of run-ins with the law, said he would be probed for sedition, intention to annoy as well as intentionally insulting a person.

“See you tomorrow Mr Policeman,” he wrote, along with the hashtag “satire is not a crime”.

News that federal police had hauled Fahmi up for questioning follows his claim that his TikTok account had been banned while he was livestreaming a lecture to students at the Universiti Malaya campus. The ban on the account was later lifted.

Two years ago, Fahmi was called up by police over his satirical picture of an ape which he uploaded on social media. Police had also probed him for sedition.

In March 2022, he pleaded not guilty in the sessions court to a charge of insulting PAS by posting a picture on Facebook linking the party with alcohol.

He had also been arrested over a caricature of former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s “Keluarga Malaysia” concept but was later freed on police bail.
