KUALA LUMPUR:
A policeman pleaded not guilty at the sessions court here today to a charge of gang robbery involving a Bangladeshi man last month.

Arieff Marhalim, 40, claimed trial after the charge was read to him before judge Izralizam Sanusi.

Arieff and another person still at large have been charged with robbing Robin Miah of gold bars weighing an estimated 1.5kg worth RM580,345.26, cash worth RM7,000 and a Redmi Note 13 mobile phone.

The offence was allegedly committed in Jalan Pudu between 12.25pm and 3.15pm on Nov 26.

They are charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail sentence of 20 years and whipping, if convicted.

Deputy public prosecutor Nor Aisyah Zanyuin proposed a bail amount of RM15,000 with one surety.

The accused’s lawyer, Shah Rizal Abdul Manan, requested a lower bail, citing his client’s current employment and responsibility to his family, including three children.

Izralizam allowed the accused bail of RM10,000 with one surety and set Jan 22 for case mention.
