Lodge report instead of dismissing ‘millions in commission’ claim, NGO tells Sabah Umno

G57 accuses the party of double standard after calling for the resignation of the chief minister in a separate issue.

PETALING JAYA:
Sabah Umno should file a police report regarding allegations that one of its leaders received millions of ringgit in “commission” for a state project instead of dismissing the matter, says Gerakan Kuasa Rakyat Malaysia (G57).

Responding to Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin’s statement that the NGO was “bankrupt of ideas”, G57 chairman Zulkarnain Mahdar questioned why no action had been taken to refute the claims, especially after they gained significant attention on social media.

“Bung should have instructed the Umno Youth, Wanita, and Puteri wing chiefs to file a police report over the claims spread by netizens about such commissions instead of evading the issue,” Zulkarnain said in a statement today.

“It is puzzling that, up to this day, there has been no police report or denial made by the Sabah Umno leaders.”

He pointed out the double standard in Sabah Umno’s response, noting that the party had quickly called for the resignation of chief minister Hajiji Noor when a separate mining licence scandal arose.

“Yet, when the commission allegations involving Sabah Umno leaders surfaced, they remained silent,” he said.

Yesterday, FMT reported that Bung refused to address the allegations raised by an NGO that a senior Sabah Umno leader received millions of ringgit in commission related to a public hospital project in the state.

The Sabah Umno chief dismissed the allegations, calling the NGO “bankrupt of ideas” and accusing it of seeking to tarnish his party’s reputation.

This comes after Zulkarnain lodged a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission report to investigate the matter.
