
Yusoff’s lawyer, Rafique Rashid Ali, said the representations will be filed soon after reviewing the prosecution’s documents.
“For both cases, we are requesting a full discharge and acquittal, not a discharge not amounting to an acquittal,” Rafique told reporters after the case was mentioned at the magistrates’ court today.
Earlier, magistrate MS Arunjothy allowed deputy public prosecutor Sabri Othman’s application to transfer the replica weapons case to the High Court, where it will be tried alongside the drug possession case.
During mention of the case at the High Court today, Justice Jamil Hussin set Jan 7 for case management.
Yusoff was charged with possessing two replica pistols near a condominium on Jalan Bukit Kiara here at 9.25am on Sept 6. The charge is framed under Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960, which provides for a maximum jail sentence of one year or a fine not exceeding RM5,000, or both, if convicted.
He was also charged with trafficking in 305g of cannabis in a vehicle in front of the Kuala Lumpur contingent police headquarters’ surau at 10.15am on Sept 6.
The charge, framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same law, provides for life imprisonment and no less than 12 strokes of the rotan, upon conviction.
