Faisal, who was conferred the Darjah Kebesaran Ahli-Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (AIS), was among 94 individuals who received state awards, honours and medals at Istana Alam Shah in conjunction with the Selangor ruler’s 79th birthday.
“During the award ceremony, Sultan Sharafuddin advised me to work hard, never give up and keep moving forward. His Royal Highness also offered words of encouragement,” said Faisal in a Bernama report.
“This honour is certainly a boost to my career. It’s not a title for me to boast about, but rather, a personal inspiration to rejoin the Selangor team with renewed determination,” he told reporters after the investiture ceremony.
Faisal said although he was informed about the award two months ago, he was unable to attend any rehearsal for the ceremony due to a packed schedule with the Red Giants.
The 26-year-old said he is recovering well from the acid attack he suffered in May, although he still has limited movement due to burns on parts of his body.
“I’m just waiting for the right time to play my normal game. I need to get back to playing to improve my condition. Nothing can hinder me now,” he said.
Faisal suffered fourth-degree burns from the acid attack on May 5 and had to undergo four surgeries to treat his burns.
He was discharged from hospital on May 25 and at one point, he had considered hanging up his boots. However, he has since returned to action with Selangor FC.
