KUALA LUMPUR:
Former Goldman Sachs banker Roger Ng is still under police custody as more information is needed from him, says Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain.

The nation’s top cop said Ng’s assistance was still needed as part of the authorities’ ongoing investigation into the recovery of 1MDB assets.

“We need more information from him. We need to review more documents from him – it’s not just one or two documents,” he said after attending the launch of a coffee table book on the history of the police force by the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah.

Ng was sentenced by a New York court to 10 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of corruption in March last year.

However, he was repatriated to Malaysia in October 2023 to assist local authorities in their bid to recover 1MDB assets.

Yesterday, Shafee Abdullah, the lead counsel for former prime minister Najib Razak, said they would file an application with the High Court to interview Ng.

Separately, Razarudin reiterated that the police had yet to receive any report concerning the recommendation by the royal commission of inquiry (RCI) into Batu Puteh, Middle Rocks and South Ledge.

In the declassified report on its findings released last Thursday, the RCI recommended that a police report be filed against former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad for cheating.
