Highest number of hardcore poor in KL, Dewan told

A total of 474 households out of 2,191 nationwide registered as hardcore poor under eKasih are in the capital city.

Nearly 400,000 heads of households were classified as poor under national poverty data bank system eKasih as of end-November.

Kuala Lumpur has the highest number of hardcore poor at 474 households, according to the national poverty data bank system eKasih.

As of last month, Kedah had the second highest number (341), followed by Sabah (289), and Johor (275), the Dewan Rakyat was told.

Perlis, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, and Putrajaya meanwhile had zero hardcore poor households registered.

In a written reply, federal territories minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said a total of 2,191 household heads nationwide came under the hardcore poor category as of Nov 30, while 391,539 were classified as poor.

Zaliha was responding to S Kesavan (PH-Sungai Siput), who had asked for a breakdown of those registered under eKasih.

Regarding heads of households under the poor category, she said Sabah had the highest number (71,900), followed by Sarawak (58,877), and Kelantan (58,684).

Putrajaya registered the lowest number of poor household heads at 38, followed by Labuan (1,772), and Kuala Lumpur (6,382).
