PETALING JAYA:
The owners of 20 vehicles that were partly submerged in floodwaters in Putrajaya yesterday will each receive RM1,000 in financial aid from the government.

Federal territories minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said this after surveying the administrative capital’s Presint 11, which was affected by the flash flood.

“I went straight to Presint 11 to survey the area after my matters at Parliament and Kuala Lumpur City Hall were done.

“I would like to announce a financial aid of RM1,000 for the 20 owners of vehicles that were submerged by yesterday’s flash flood,” she said in a Facebook post.

The flash flood occurred at about 5pm after heavy rain fell for about an hour, rendering several roads impassable to light vehicles.

Firefighters managed to clear blocked drains and divert the floodwaters, which receded by 5.30pm.

Zaliha also ordered Putrajaya Corporation to install a flood alert system fitted with a siren that would warn residents and others of possible floods and to relocate their vehicles.

She also asked the department of irrigation and drainage to check on the area’s drainage system to ensure it had the capacity to handle heavy rainfall.
