KUALA LUMPUR:
An elderly man was fined RM1,500 by the magistrates’ court here today after he pleaded guilty to hitting a motorist over parking space two months ago.

Magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan meted the sentence on Ng Heng Cye, 68, and ordered him to be jailed for a month if he failed to pay the fine.

Ng was charged with hitting Leong Chee Liang, 42, causing injuries to his right eye, neck, right knee and right hand at the roadside on Jalan Perisa 1, Brickfields here at 7.34am on Oct 25.

He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, punishable by up to a year in prison, a maximum fine of RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, Leong’s vehicle had taken up two parking bays, prompting Ng to alight from his car and asking him to move his vehicle.

A scuffle ensued after Leong got angry, resulting in Ng hitting him.

Deputy public prosecutor Syafika Azwa Fikri requested for a sentence commensurate with the crime as a lesson, while lawyer Syazwani Zawawi requested a lenient sentence since her client was an unemployed senior citizen.
