KUCHING:
All childcare centres registered with the social welfare department will be required to display their registration number from Jan 1.

Women, family and community development minister Nancy Shukri said this is to assure parents on the licensing status of the centres where their children are placed.

Nancy said people had asked how they would know if a childcare centre was registered.

“So now, we are making it compulsory for childcare centres to display their registration number on their premises,” she told reporters here last night.

She said the initiative is among her ministry’s main agendas for 2025.

The other initiatives include rolling out the autism learning fee assistance programme and the development of an autism service centre, involving allocations of RM15 million and RM5 million, respectively.

“The prime minister announced this during the tabling of Budget 2025, and it is a new initiative aimed at ensuring the welfare of autistic children.

“It is time for the government to provide focused support and early intervention for children with autism, without placing them alongside non-autistic children,” she said.
