Floods recede, less than 5,000 at relief centres

All evacuees have returned home in Pahang, while the number of those at relief centres in Kelantan, Kedah and other states has dropped significantly.

PETALING JAYA:
The flood situation has improved significantly today, with the number of victims dropping below 5,000 this evening.

The situation in the worst-hit state of Kelantan has significantly improved, with 2,915 victims being sheltered in four relief centres, compared with 6,269 this morning.

The number of flood evacuees in Kedah also reduced to 1,116 from 1,865 in the morning.

There are still 452 victims taking shelter at relief centres in Johor, followed by 131 in Perak and 105 in Melaka.

The floods in Pahang have subsided with all evacuees allowed to return home, following the closure of the relief centre at Balai Raya Kampung Baru Pertanian in Maran at noon today.

Nine people have died from the monsoon floods, which severely affected the east coast of the peninsula and was reportedly the worst in a decade.
