More relief centres closed as floods recede in 7 states

The number of evacuees in relief centres in Kelantan dropped by half today, with the highest number in Tumpat and Pasir Mas.

More flood victims have returned home, leading to the closure of many relief centres as the monsoon floods receded in Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Perak, Pahang, Melaka, and Johor.

In Kelantan, the number of evacuees dropped by half to 12,736 from 23,366 this morning. The highest number of evacuees was in Tumpat (8,514) and Pasir Mas (4,200).

The number of evacuees in Kedah also dropped to 2,861 from 3,676 this morning, housed at 17 relief centres. Kota Setar has the highest number of evacuees at 2,479 while Kubang Pasu has 382 people. Three centres in Pokok Sena have been closed.

In Terengganu, only one family of five still remains at a relief centre, and all eight relief centres in Kuala Nerus were closed after 976 people were allowed to return to their homes.

In Perak, one centre each in Kinta and Perak Tengah were closed today, with only 129 people still seeking shelter.

The number of evacuees has also dropped in Johor to 811, but one relief centre was opened in Batu Pahat to house 30 people.

In Pahang, 15 from five families still remain at a relief centre in Maran.
