PETALING JAYA:
Celebrity preacher Azman Syah Alias has been sentenced to 14 months in jail for outraging the decency of a teenage boy two years ago.

Azman, 43, pleaded guilty to the charge before magistrate Amirul Asyraf Abd Rasid in the Klang magistrates’ court today, Kosmo reported.

He was charged with outraging the decency of the 19-year-old boy at a house on Jalan Sungai Bertek at about 9.15pm on June 10, 2022.

The charge was framed under Section 377D of the Penal Code, which provides for up to two years’ jail upon conviction.

The magistrate ordered Azman’s sentence to begin today.

In September, Azman was sentenced to 24 years in prison and two strokes of the rotan for sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy on two occasions in 2022.

He is currently serving the jail term after his application to stay the execution of the sentence was rejected by the Klang sessions court.

During sentencing today, his lawyer, Fahmi Adilah, said Azman was remorseful over his actions and pointed out that his client was serving his 24-year jail sentence.

However, deputy public prosecutor Rasyidah Murni Adzmi argued that Azman’s guilty plea was not a strong reason to give him a light sentence. She urged the court to consider the gravity of his offence and public interest.
