PETALING JAYA:
The wife of teacher Izzuddin Izhar, who was allowed to return to Kelantan in October to be with her after multiple failed applications, has died after a battle with stage four cancer.

Izzuddin, better known as Cikgu Din, said Nur Atiqah My Yusoff, 30, breathed her last at Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II in Kota Bharu at about 9pm yesterday, Berita Harian reported.

In a Facebook post, education minister Fadhlina Sidek conveyed her condolences to Izzuddin over Nur Atiqah’s passing.

Izzuddin’s plight caught the attention of netizens after he shared his situation on Facebook, saying repeated applications for a transfer to be with his sick wife had been rejected.

The education ministry then allowed Izzuddin a temporary placement at a school in Kelantan so that he could be with his wife while fulfilling his teaching duties.

The ministry also said that officials would meet with him soon to discuss the kind of aid it could offer.
