
Its director-general Hisham Anip said the west coast of the peninsula, Sabah, and Sarawak are also expected to be affected, although not as severely.
According to Berita Harian, Hisham said the phenomenon would cause strong winds and choppy waters in the South China Sea.
“We will issue an official warning once the output of our forecast model reaches a convincing level,” he was quoted as saying.
The flood situation is currently easing, with 83,217 flood victims housed at 325 shelters in seven states as of 1.30pm compared with 94,636 this morning.
Kelantan is the worst-hit state with 49,721 evacuees, followed by Terengganu (22,646), Kedah (7,171), Pahang (1,794), Johor (1,093), Perak (641) and Melaka (161).
The floods have led to the deaths of seven people so far.
