152,000 flood victims evacuated in 9 states

Kelantan has the most number of evacuees with 96,929, followed by Terengganu (43,581) and Kedah (8,618).

PETALING JAYA:
More than 152,000 people have been evacuated to relief centres in the nine states affected by floods.

The death toll remains at three, according to the National Disaster Command Centre.

The centre said a total of 152,341 flood victims have been evacuated to 679 temporary relief centres in the nine states as of 6am today.

Kelantan has the most number of flood victims with 96,929, followed by Terengganu (43,581), Kedah (8,618), Negeri Sembilan (1,930), Johor (569), Melaka (296), Perlis (226), Selangor (114) and Pahang (78).

The drainage and irrigation department’s website showed that several major rivers in Kelantan have exceeded their danger levels, including Sungai Kelantan in Tanah Merah (16.91m) and Sungai Golok Tanah Merah (29.98m).

Meanwhile, religious affairs minister Na’im Mokhtar said the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (Maiwp) has allocated RM5 million to help flood victims throughout the country.

Bernama reported that he said the aid will be channelled through the Islamic development department (Jakim) and the Islamic religious councils in the states affected by floods.
