10 fined RM800 for Penang waterfront brawl

They pleaded guilty to being members of an unlawful assembly with the intent to fight and committing the offence of rioting at 2.30am on Nov 23.

Nine men and a woman aged between 20 and 40 were fined RM800 each, or one month’s jail, for taking part in a riot outside the Queens Waterfront condominium and commercial centre in Bayan Lepas last week.

Seven other men and a woman pleaded not guilty and were allowed RM1,500 bail each pending their trial.

Media reports last week quoted police as saying the brawl was believed to have been triggered by a misunderstanding between a couple. The complainant said he got into a minor scuffle with an unknown man after he saw his girlfriend with him.

Those who pleaded guilty: Khairul Ezham Khairul Eddy, 20; Syafril Haikal Fazli, 20; Aliff Aliman Mazlan, 21; Alif Ikhram Hashim, 23; Ahmad Afiifuddin Selamat, 25; Asrul Nazrul Haizam, 22; Syafik Abdullah, 20; Ahmad Ameeruddin Selamat, 22; Nornikman Noor Din, 33; and Nor Azira Zaidi, 40.

They were charged with being members of an unlawful assembly with the intent to fight and committing the offence of rioting at 2.30am on Nov 23 in front of the Queens Waterfront condominium and commercial centre in Persiaran Bayan Indah, Bayan Lepas.

Those who pleaded not guilty: Ammar Ghani, 19; Aiman Ibrahim, 19; Aszaifudin Hamid Mohaideen, 19; Nur Zuhairi Noordin, 19; Adzlie Hakim Nasir, 19; Fahrein Addenan, 19; Alyssa Sofieya Mazlan, 19; and Nor Isma Haikal Nor Ismadi, 20.

Isma also pleaded not guilty to a separate charge of causing hurt to Khairul Ezham during the same incident and was granted a RM1,500 bail.
