KUALA LUMPUR:
A part-time pastor was charged in the magistrates’ court here today with murdering his mother three years ago.

Berita Harian reported that N Deanesh, 53, was charged with killing his mother, Catherine Daniel, 77, at a house in Taman OUG, Brickfields, between March 21 and March 26, 2021.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or 30 to 40 years’ imprisonment and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.

Deanesh, who was in a wheelchair, said he understood the charge when it was read out to him before magistrate Atiqah Mohamed.

No plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

The court set Feb 7 for case mention while awaiting the post-mortem, medical, and DNA matching reports.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Nurainizatul Farhana Zainal while the accused was unrepresented.

It was previously reported that a man in his 50s was arrested in Taman OUG on suspicion of killing his mother in 2021 and storing her body in a freezer for three years.
