This is the first time a royal couple has taken part in an event held by the NPC.
NPC president Ahirudin Attan said the club was incredibly honoured to welcome the royal couple to the golfing event after a seven-year hiatus.
“The revival of golf today happened after His Royal Highness agreed to be here with us and helped us revive this event,” he said at the tournament’s prize presentation ceremony at the Tropicana Golf and Country Resort.
“This time around, His Royal Highness also gifted us with the presence of Tunku Azizah.”
Ahirudin recalled the first golf tournament NPC held in 2003 which was graced by Al-Sultan Abdullah when he was the Tengku Mahkota of Pahang.
He also expressed hope that the royal couple would continue to grace the event for years to come.
Al-Sultan Abdullah and Tunku Azizah enjoyed live music performances curated by NPC.
They also stunned the crowd with their renditions of “To Love Somebody” by Bee Gees, “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” by Udit Narayan & Alka Yagnik and “One Moment in Time” by Whitney Houston.
The event’s participants were also given a book titled “Sports Flame”, a compilation of articles by renowned local sportswriters.
The book also featured a collection of stories written by national athletes such as Olympian Karu Selvaratnam, shuttler Yew Cheng Hoe and footballer Rahim Abdullah.
The tournament, which attracted around 120 participants, was aimed at strengthening the relationship between the NPC, the government, corporate sector and the media.
