Loke said RM6.81 million of the allocation had been earmarked to equip all monorail stations with automatic gates.
He said the automatic gate system at four stations (Maharajalela, Imbi, Hang Tuah, and Bukit Bintang) would be fully operational by the end of this week, while five more stations between Raja Chulan and Titiwangsa would follow suit by the end of the year.
“As of Nov 15, two monorail stations, KL Sentral and Tun Sambanthan, are fully functioning with the automatic gate system,” he told a press conference after inspecting the monorail line here today.
“This upgrade is crucial as the monorail serves 60,000 riders daily and is a vital route for many, including people with disabilities.”
Loke said the remaining RM10 million has been used to repair all lifts and escalators at the 11 stations, with completion expected by April next year.
He added that the ministry plans to add three more monorail train sets within two years to reduce waiting times from seven to three minutes.
Separately, Loke revealed there were zero recorded incidents of passengers falling onto train tracks up until 2017.
“Of the 10 incidents since 2017, half occurred in the last two years alone, two last year and three so far this year,” he said.
