PETALING JAYA:
Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong has been appointed Melaka DAP chairman during today’s state chapter convention.

G Saminathan was appointed deputy chairman while Leng Chau Yen and S Chandru will serve as vice-chairmen for the 2024-2027 term.

Khoo was initially selected to lead the state chapter on an interim basis in June following Tey Kok Kiew’s resignation.

Khoo, 53, was the Ayer Keroh assemblyman from 2008 to 2018 and has been the Kota Melaka MP since 2018.

The leadership positions at state DAP chapters are decided after delegates to the state DAP convention vote for 15 members to make up the state leadership committee. The committee members then determine among themselves who should take up the key positions.

DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said although today’s convention was supposed to involve an election, the process was not required as only 15 candidates were nominated.

“I received information that a consensus had been reached. There is good understanding among the members of Melaka DAP,” he said.

“It seems that Melaka DAP is going through a positive period after witnessing intense competition and internal divisions in the past.”

He expressed confidence that the state DAP chapter would be more stable and help serve the public better.
