GEORGE TOWN:
Police have arrested 17 Malaysians, including two women, to assist in their investigation into a brawl outside a waterfront mall in Bayan Indah.

Police said the 15 men and two women, aged between 19 and 40, were picked up at various locations around Bayan Lepas following the 2am brawl yesterday at Queens Waterfront Q1, which houses condominium apartments and a commercial centre.

“A video of the brawl went viral on social media and it is believed to have been triggered by a misunderstanding between a couple,” said Barat Daya police chief Sazalee Adam.

“According to a police report filed by the complainant, he got into a minor scuffle with an unknown man after he saw his girlfriend with him. However, the woman intervened and managed to break it up,” Sazalee said when contacted tonight.

He said the suspects have been remanded for four days.
