The world No 10 lost to Chinese top seeds Feng Yan Zha-Huang Ding Ping 18-21, 13-21 in a match that lasted 45 minutes in Shenzhen.
With this win, the Chinese pair have beaten the Malaysians four times in six encounters.
However, Tang Jie-Ee Wei have already qualified for the lucrative season-ending BWF World Tour Finals to be played in Hangzhou, China, next month. They are currently in fourth position on the list, with the top eight going through.
Yan Zha-Ding Ping have also booked their place in the finals.
Yesterday, Tang Jie-Ee Wei made one of the greatest comebacks in badminton history in their quarter-final match against another Chinese pair, Guo Xin Wa-Chen Fang Hui.
They lost the first game 14-21 and trailed 6-20 in the second before mounting their comeback to win 23-21. They then went on to clinch the rubber game 21-16.
In the final tomorrow, Yan Zha-Ding Ping will meet the winners of the other semi-final match, which also involves a Malaysian pair.
Surprise semi-finalists Hoo Pang Ren-Cheng Su Yin will take on Hong Kong’s world No 7 Wang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet later today.
The Tour Finals offers US$2.5 million in total prize money, including US$210,000 (RM937,500) for the doubles winners in all three categories, and also substantial points for the final rankings.
National men’s singles player Lee Zii Jia has already qualified for the event, marking his return to the prestigious tournament after a two-year absence.
Doubles shuttlers Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani as well as mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai and women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M Thinaah have also booked their places in Hangzhou.
Aaron-Wooi Yik’s participation had been in doubt, but according to Bernama, BWF said in a post on X today that they, together with Indonesia’s Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, claimed the final two slots in the men’s doubles category.
Only the top eight players and pairs in the Tour Finals qualifiers list will make it to the event. There is also a cap of two representatives from each country per category.
